Ben McCarthy’s first solo show Late Nights and Weekends, was held in Object Gallery's project space in 2010. The exhibition featured new and experimental works that brought unlikely materials and production methods together.
Since completing a degree in Industrial Design at the University of New South Wales in 2003 McCarthy has spent much of his time outside of Australia – working for Tom Dixon in London, undertaking an Australia Council residency in Milan and is currently Head of Industrial Design for Michael Young Ltd in Hong Kong. His own work – including lighting, furniture and accessories – has been exhibited in Tokyo, London, Milan and Australia and has won prestigious industry awards.
The elegant and clear approach for the visual assets is a direct reflection of Ben’s work and aesthetics. Whilst the exhibition design uses tactile textures, fastenings and humble elements alluding to his workmanship and skill.
